Capsule is pleased to announce its first participation in ArtVerona, showcasing the works by Cai Zebin and Mevlana Lipp in a dialogue between surreal narratives and cosmic symbolism.
Cai Zebin (b. 1988, Shantou, China) presents a constellation of manuscripts and paintings where hybrid figures and allegorical scenes unfold like fragments of an unfinished play, oscillating between humor and unease. His works blur the boundary between literary imagination and painterly invention, sketching a theatre of uncanny yet strangely familiar encounters. By layering references from art history, folklore, and personal memory, Cai builds a world where the absurd and the profound coexist.
Enveloping Cai's paintings, Mevlana Lipp's (b. 1989, Cologne, Germany) new canvases mark the evolution of a practice that once balanced painting and sculpture in wooden reliefs set against dark velvet. Over time, these forms have softened, the colors grew more fluid, and his visual language naturally expanded onto canvas. These new works open onto dreamlike landscapes and organic shapes that seem to breathe and transform, unfolding into space with light and rhythm. Lipp continues to explore themes of communication beyond language, transformation, and sensuality-now in a freer, more expansive painterly idiom.
Together, Cai and Lipp stage a universe where the intimate and the otherworldly meet-a theatre of symbols, visions, and metamorphoses.
