Shed (2023) depicts a detail from Rogier van der Weyden’s Descent From the Cross (c. 1435). Painted on a small wood panel, hand bleeds freely amidst a field of gold, a symbol of the mineral of vitality and the sun. Set within an antique tramp frame, the elongated borders seem to lock the hand within a fixture of stillness, existing outside of time. As intricate objects made with delicacy and precision, these frames become the devotional objects of hands, instruments of manifestation and control.
