‘Ember’ (2025) depicts a detail from El Greco’s ‘Boy Blowing on an Ember’ (1571-1572), painted on a mirrored candle holder. It shows a youth emerging from the night, as he lowers a candle to ignite a flame. Enlightened by this initiatory fire, he blows on the charcoal, focused on the exchange. Imbued with the internal rhythms of life, this light at the heart of the mirror grows. Outside the portal, twin flames rise like burning trees and smolder with the impermanence of life. Their light creates a halo reflected in glass, like the moon in a sacred grove. Cycles of breath stoke an inward light, encircled by wheels of leaves. This union of opposing forces manifests a body composed of light, shining as the first aspect of the unformed universe.
