Fuse (2022), depicts a detail from Dieric Bout’s Christ Crowned with Thorns (c. 1470-75). Painted on a geode, fragments of a weeping face melt into the recesses of the mineral’s core. The spirit seems to dwindle as blood and tears drip down from a reddened eye, exuding trepidation throughout the mineral’s chalcedonic frenzy. Exhuming fear and pain, the flesh becomes stone, returning to the earth and merging within the confines of this regenerative tomb.
