Concurrently with the fair, Capsule will present the off-site exhibition Shelters: Luca Campestri, Alessandro Teoldi. Hosted in the art space Sof:Art, founded by Italian art collector Matteo Novarese, the exhibition is curated by Manuela Lietti. It brings together the works of the two Italian artists, exploring how the concepts of refuge, protection, and non-places permeate the poetics of both. The exhibition will start on February 8th, 2025, with an opening reception at 1 PM.
Necrovalley, the most recent series by Luca Campestri (born in 1999 in Florence; lives and works in Bologna) portrays architectures built by bathers during the day on the beach at the edge of the pine forest of Lido di Classe in the Romagna Riviera in Italy. These wooden structures, imbued with an almost sculptural value, turn out to be temporary shelters absent of any human figure. They are built and demolished daily in a continuous practice, encompassing elements of presence and absence.
The works of Alessandro Teoldi (born in 1987 in Milan; lives and works in New York) belong to his well-known series created using travel blankets distributed by various airlines. The blanket is used by the artist as a sort of protective talisman, an expression of the search for the intimate and familiar. Human silhouettes caught in the act of embracing, hiding until they get lost in each other, are protagonists in a space devoid of any other objects of affection.
