EMILIANO MAGGI|CELESTIAL BLOOM @ Venice Art Night 2024

Venice, June 17 2024. On the occasion of Venice Art Night 2024 – an event conceived and organised since 2011 by Ca’ Foscari University in collaboration with the City of Venice, as well as part of the official calendar of European Art Nights Capsule Venice is pleased to announce its participation with Celestial Bloom, a music and dance performance conceived by the Italian artist, musician, and performer Emiliano Maggi.

The 2024 edition of Venice Art Night features the city’s public and private cultural institutions offering hundreds of free events: extraordinary openings of palaces, museums, galleries, and foundations, theatre performances, and a host of readings, concerts, exhibitions, and workshops animating the city and offering young people, adults, and families the opportunity to enjoy Venice’s unique artistic heritage by night.

Celestial Bloom is a work rooted in Maggi’s fascination with the constant interaction between the human, vegetable and animal kingdoms. The work is a collaboration with young performers from local art universities (Irene Mathilda Alaimo, Arianna Boffa, Gilda Cutillo, Emma Mietti, Saba Poori, Alice Scarpa, and Sara Angela Zen). The performance is a tribute to the oneiric dimension, and to the flow of energies that activate the biosphere, giving rise to continuous and unexpected hybridisations and metamorphoses.

Celestial Bloom is inspired by the exhibition Hovering, the ongoing group show in the gallery spaces which also includes works by Maggi. On the occasion of Venice Art Night 2024, the exhibition will not only be accessible throughout the day (from 11 AM to 11 PM), but will also be accompanied by free guided tours for the public that will involve all the exhibition spaces of Capsule Venice, whose venue is located in the spaces of the Giorgio and Armanda Marchesani Foundation and its garden.

Emiliano Maggi (Rome, 1977) is an artist, musician, and performer. He lives and works in Rome. Involving the viewer in a continuous chain of associations that interweave history, myth, legend and folk wisdom, his works play with ideas of ambiguity, not only in relation to the characters portrayed - suspended between beauty and fear, fascination and repulsion - but also in his choice of materials. A contemporary alchemist, Maggi creates alternative realities based on continuous flows of energy and the possibility of becoming Other.

Inaugurated in 2024 inside the Giorgio and Armanda Marchesani Foundation in Dorsoduro, Capsule Venice is the first international venue of the Chinese gallery Capsule Shanghai, which was founded in 2016 by the Italian gallerist Enrico Polato and which focuses on emerging Chinese and international artists whose practices are helping to enrich the dynamics of art globally.

Curating the programme of Capsule Venice, structured in parallel with the 60th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, is Manuela Lietti, a curator, critic, and the co-author of numerous international publications.
