We are pleased to announce Alice Wang's solo show, "The Earth is Plummeting Towards the Sun While Just Missing It," at Jimei Arles in Xiamen, China. The exhibition will open on November 29, 2024, and last until January 12, 2025.
In this exhibition, artist Alice Wang adopts a critical perspective to examine worlds that transcend the limits of human cognition, inviting viewers to shift their perspective and reconsider the relationship between themselves and surroundings from broader dimensions. Over the last decade, artist Alice Wang has experimented with a variety of imaging techniques, including wet plate collodion photography, vinyl printing, and 16mm film shooting, where photography has evolved into a medium that pushes the boundaries of the visual and the reach of the human body while also exploring the gap between the earth and outer space. She skillfully appropriates images captured by high technology devices that exist in the distant celestial dimension or on a microscopic scale, images that go beyond the reach of the naked eye, extending the language of photography into the realm of the unperceivable. In this era of division and polarization, as well as the growing challenge of climate change, placing ourselves in the context of the universe allows for a more inclusive awareness of our collective experience.
