‘Scarlet’ (2021) depicts a detail from Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio’s ‘Judith Beheading Holofrenes’ (c. 1599), painted on a cast resin sculpture. It shows the face of a woman, veiled in darkness, on the body of the sleeping cat. Clashing with the animal’s harmonious calm, her striking features convey a determined intensity, while imbued with a primal force. She reveals a ferocity born from necessity, personifying the cunning instincts of the hunter in twilight.
