For the CLP commissioned sculpture, Chan presents Nestling Bi, an ambiguous biomorphic crafted from onyx, shaped like a Bi (璧) disc, which nestles within an elongated, leaf-shape bronze structure. This bronze element extends from the ground, tapering off as it ascends into space. The sculpture is balanced by a mechanical form amalgamated with oversized, ubiquitous everyday objects, including plastic egg packaging, a hex nut, and crystal chandelier bead.
The heavyweight onyx and bronze are transformed into elegant composition that conveys a sense of lightness and fluidity of lines in space, simultaneously evoking classical and futuristic aesthetics. Upon close inspection, the veins of the onyx reveal its geological formation, unfolding the passage of time. The artisanal ancient craft of forging bronze is achieved by melting domestic recycled copper, emphasizing green, renewable low-carbon emission resources.
The Bi disc, an ancient jade motif used for ritual and ornamental purposes since the Neolithic period, traditionally symbolizes a connection between the earth and the heavens. In this sculpture, light passes through the inner circle of the Bi disc, activating both the exterior and interior spaces. The Bi disc invokes the flow of energy between the artwork and its surroundings, embodying the artist’s belief that all objects possess a form of life beyond human perception or comprehension.
陈丽同为中电集团(CLP)创作的委任雕塑《璧居》形式仿生而抽象化,以玛瑙雕琢而成的玉璧倚立在细长的树叶状青铜结构之上。青铜部分自地面生长般延展,线条逐渐收束,向上延伸至空中。为整件雕塑提供力学支撑和平衡的是一个机械形态的结构,由塑料鸡蛋盒、六角螺母和水晶吊灯珠链等日常物件放大糅合而成。
艺术家为厚重的玛瑙和青铜赋予了优美的形态,线条传达出轻盈流动的空间感,同时兼具古典与未来的气质。近看之下,玛瑙的纹理是地质生成的痕迹,诉说着时间的恒久流逝。青铜的锻造延续了古老的工艺,以熔化的再生家用铜材为原料,强调绿色、低碳、可再生的资源理念。
璧作为一种玉器样式可追溯至新石器时代,自古被用于仪式与装饰,象征着天地之间的联结。在这件作品中,光线穿透璧的孔洞,激活内外空间,唤起作品与环境之间的能量流动,体现出艺术家秉持的信念——万物皆有生命,只是有时超越了人类感知与理解的范畴。
