Feng Chen's work crosses the boundaries of sculpture, video and installation. He experiments with the camera, and the synchronicity between sound and image. The Darker Side of Light - Color is a disorienting space that invites the audience to experience shifts in sensory perception. Upon entering the cubed space, viewers are immersed in an ambience of white light augmented by subtly pulsing LED lights. When one puts on a wireless headset, all external sound is blocked. The camera records the viewer and the surrounding environment, transferring real-time images onto monitors, each displaying a different angle of the space. The images reflect partial reality, as the artist intervenes into the space through an intricate system of synchronization of images and light. The bright space then appears in darkness on the screens, while music plays through the headset, creating a multi-sensory experience.
