Jiang Li 蒋立, Scenery out of the Window #2 窗外的风景 #2, 2017

This work, evidently a landscape, shows the scenery the artist sees from the window of his toilet during the days of pollution in Beijing, city where he lives. The view is the district of Wangjing, literally “wang” (look over) and “jing” (Beijing), “look over Beijing”, while the district he lives at is funnily called Jingwang.
To make this work, the artist has cut a piece of pork fat, shaped it as the landscape he wanted to represent and put it on ten layers rice paper leaving it for one night.

这是一幅风景画，展现了在雾霾天气时艺术家从北京住处窗户外看到的风景。地点位于望京，字面意思亦即“望着北京”，而他所居住的小区有趣地叫做“京旺”。为了做这件作品，艺术家切割了一块猪肉，把它塑造成他想要的景观，把它放在十层宣纸上放置了一晚。
