Woodside (2024) borrows its title from another cemetery, extending Jaeger’s quiet meditation on memorial space. A tall ceramic vessel rises on elongated blackened steel legs, its proportions slender and slightly austere. From the earthen surface emerge a cluster of dark, stylized flowers—upright yet restrained—while a narrow opening in the body reveals a hidden interior. Within, a small gilded worm lies partially concealed, a subtle presence that complicates the work’s stillness.
The piece oscillates between containment and exposure. Elevated and architectural, it recalls a monument; yet the intimate interior detail introduces vulnerability and decay. In Woodside, Jaeger suggests that beneath formal structures of remembrance, life and transformation persist in quieter, less visible forms.
