Capsule Shanghai is pleased to announce the launch of Alice Wang's artist book. The limited edition artist book, published on the occasion of Alice Wang's solo exhibition at Capsule Shanghai, is an animated silver object with freeze-frames of images of upside down synchronized swimmers. It also features a newly commissioned text by btr, translated by Mike Fu. The book is published by Sming Sming Books, an artist-run publishing studio based in California.

Sming Sming Books will be launching Alice Wang's book at the 2017 Vancouver Art Book Fair on October 13 -15 at the Vancouver Art Gallery. 

 

The event will be accompanied by a conversation between Alice Wang and Chen Zou.

 

Chen Zou (b. 1986, Jiangsu), lives and works in Shanghai and Chicago. She graduated from China Academy of Art’s New Media Art program in 2008 and later studied filmmaking and Interdisciplinary Arts in France and the US. She founded and has run the nonprofit art platform OpenArt since 2015. She also started publishing the independent artist interview magazine [soft] in 2016. Her most recent curatorial project was the “24h Marathon Gallery” which took place at FlipPOP space in Shanghai in August 2017.
