In conjunction with Cai Zebin’s (b. 1988, Shantou, China) solo project at Artissima, Turin, Italy, Capsule Shanghai is pleased to present “Chimera”, a curated exhibition of Cai’s paintings from various local and international collections, brought together in the virtual space to form a unique presentation that sheds light on his practice over the past two years.

Fictional Images

Shown together for the first time, the ‘Fictional Image’ series in the first room depicts a combination and transfiguration of furniture, which embodies Cai’s imagination towards the image of a painter.
The Palette Characters

The second room with grey walls houses four paintings from the ‘Self-Portrait’ series, creating a befittingly placid and introspective context for the nocturnal scenes to inspire dialogues among the works.

Walking through the spaces, the viewer retraces the path of the artist’s evolving interest and logic reflected in the works from two different phases.
