Cambium Wanderer (2024) extends Leelee Chan’s sustained inquiry into the porous boundary between industrial infrastructure and organic growth. A found plastic shipping pallet cut and sculpted into an arcane wall relic, interwoven with gnarled root forms, bronze wildflowers, and rippled amber-colored resin. The sculpture draws inspiration from cambium, the active layer beneath a tree’s bark responsible for growth and regeneration, as well as from the sprawling tree roots that reclaim the urban environment in Hong Kong. Lattices and modular components—echoing urban scaffolding or transport systems—are subtly infiltrated by organic forms, creating a parallel relationship between the underground root network and the above-ground global economies that pallets enable.
《树层漫游者》(2024)延续了陈丽同对于工业基础设施与有机生长之间流动边界的持续探究。艺术家将一块拾得的塑料运输托盘切割并塑形成神秘的墙面遗迹,其间盘绕交织着青铜野花、虬结的根系与泛着涟漪的琥珀色树脂。作品的灵感源于树木的形成层——树皮之下负责生长与再生的活跃组织,同时也来自香港城市环境中蜿蜒蔓生、重夺空间的树根。作品中的格栅与模块构件令人联想到城市中的脚手架和运输网络,而有机形态则悄然侵入其间,在托盘所承载的地表全球经济体系和地下根系网络之间建立起一种并置而平行的关系。
