Crazy Wife (2022) is driven by utilitarian, low-tech motors—the kind commonly found in household electric fans or mosquito repellers—which set a strand of hair extensions and a kitchen knife into continuous motion against an iron wok stripped of its conventional form. Subject to gravity and constant rotation, the knife dances, slips, and strikes frantically against the metal, producing a sharp, persistent noise.
Created during a residency and exhibition centered on the kitchen as a site of inquiry, the work draws on objects and technologies associated with everyday domestic life while turning them into an unpredictable, almost volatile performance. Through the collision of the hair, knife, and wok, the artist unsettles conventional distinctions between femininity and aggression, domesticity and public agency. Rather than treating the kitchen simply as a space of confinement, Crazy Wife transforms it into a site where different—and sometimes contradictory—conditions of womanhood can become visible.
