'The Darker Side of Light - Color' is a disorienting space that invites the audience to experience shifts in sensory perception. Upon entering the cubed space, viewers are immersed in an ambience of white light augmented by subtly pulsing LED lights. When one puts on a wireless headset, all external sound is blocked. The camera records the viewer and the surrounding environment, transferring real-time images onto monitors, each displaying a different angle of the space. The images reflect partial reality, as the artist intervenes into the space through an intricate system of synchronization of images and light. The bright space then appears in darkness on the screens, while music plays through the headset, creating a multi-sensory experience.
The Darker Side of Light - Color is a project to explore the on-site experience that the audience receives through the display of an artwork. In order to achieve this survey, the main target is to allure the audience attentively into the work instead of viewing the show through other media than their own eyes. The artist programmed a set of high frequency flickering lighting installation which synchronizes only with a real-time recording camera. This experience cannot be captured by any 3C products nor any forms of images. Through this work, the artist questions the idea of how audience experiences exhibitions nowadays. By showcasing this project, the artist would like to provide the audience with a total experience and discover the possibility of human vision.
