Two feet emerge in a pool, each holding a flower between the first two toes, posing for the photo in a moment of play and tranquility. In this large, gray, and murky pool, the bright red nail polish stands out.
The subject is part of a broader body of work focused on moments suspended in time, set in closed environments like vacation spots, tourist villages, beaches, and resorts. These are protected, controlled, and self-contained places.
The horizon is enclosed by a barrier, with glimpses of the external vegetation alternating in the view. This alternation of meaning is often present in my work: protection becomes oppression, survival becomes control, water turns into mud.
The moment is suspended, right before the inevitable immersion of the subject and thus the disintegration of the image itself—it's the moment before everything dissolves again. It is the moment between form and formlessness. - Rudy Cremonini
