Tick Away is an installation of 6 LED light tubes with inscriptions of poems on each one’s surface. Three of them are quotes from the famous poets Jorge Luis Borges, Charles Baudelaire’s Le Balcon, and Pablo Neruda’s Twenty Love Poems and A Song of Despair; the other three are written by the artist. Through the management of re-combination, these poems are extracted from their original contexts; the romantic sense has been erased while the literal meaning of texts is being emphasized. Thus, the six sentences of poems have become slogans in the end.
In this lighting installation, the three “previous” poets have made a historical connection with the “current” artist. In this piece, the link between the past and the present is concrete, and it also points to an intangible future. We human always put hope into the future; but the future is actually unpredictable. The wandering status is a certain kind of waiting with vague hopes. The inscription on light tubes suggests the artist’s visionary of the inner world and daily life of a future society that has complicated emotions including anxiety, unsettlement, and loneliness.
其中三句分别摘抄于三位著名的诗⼈:博尔赫斯(Borges)、波尔莱尔(Baudelaire《阳台(Le balcon)》)和聂鲁达(Pablo Neruda《⼆⼗⾸情歌 和⼀⾸绝望的诗(Twenty Love Poems and A Song of Despair)》),另外是艺术家写下的三个句⼦。
