Crinoids are marine animals usually attached to the bottom of the sea by a stalk, and some of the oldest living species to be found. Seemingly, gold occurs naturally in the universe and is thought to have been present in the dust from which the Solar System was formed. Untitled, 2016 consists of a group of crinoid fossils gilded in 24 K gold, where the roughness of the primordial objects contrast with the shimmering patina realized through the gold leaf gilding process – two ancient materials forming a new object.
